本剧以一间电视新闻编辑室的混乱世界为背景。故事从1986年讲起，哈雷彗星人人必看，艾滋病危机正在蔓延，挑战者号的爆炸震惊了世界。在这样的新闻世界中，新闻播音员HelenNorville(AnnaTorv饰)决心建立自己的信誉，而她的同事DaleJennings(SamReid饰)则渴望成为一名新闻播音员。
