这是香港“光头神探”麦嘉首次执导的电视剧。曾出演《蔷薇之恋》《恶作剧之吻》等偶像剧的台湾新生代偶像郑元畅，在剧中扮演一个爱钱如命、惟利是图的大学生，一次偶然的机会，和其他三人共同踏上了寻宝之路。略带奇幻色彩的剧情让《第一桶金》包含了不少戏中戏，它让出道四年的郑元畅同时经历了几个“第一”：第一次到内地拍戏、第一次拍武打戏、第一次尝试古装造型，而且还是一个清朝的皇帝造型。
