故事发生在东北农村。剧中表现了农民在改革大潮冲击下离开黑土地进城打工，给农民带回了新思想，新文化，新技术。在党富民政策的鼓舞下一些农民又回归土地的心迹变化。真实的反映出农民在社会环境中城市反哺农村，农民一心一意奔小康的清明上河图景象。
她在前人基础上，苦心钻研黄梅戏的演唱技艺，组建戏班，将黄梅采茶小戏，推进成高台大戏，并一路唱到京城。她是清乾隆年间鄂赣皖三省黄梅戏代表人物，也是黄梅戏从民间小戏发展成高台大戏的奠基人，乾隆皇帝曾御赐为“黄梅名伶”，堪称一代宗师。
