乾隆年间，简述了一代神医的传奇故事。以戏说的表现手法，撷取了“医痴”叶天士出手治伤、治匪于（膏）肓、奇药救（皇）上、巧做红娘几个故事，再现了清代名医叶天士精湛的医术、精深的医理，和威武不屈富贵不移的高尚医德、医道。
这一系列故事发生在1959年漫长炎热的夏天，婚礼季节在剑桥郡格兰切斯特村如火如荼。
