舞台は、南極の昭和基地から離れる事1000キロ、標高3800ｍ、平均気温マイナス54度、世界で最も過酷な観測地帯と言われる「ドーム基地」。生物はおろかウイルスさえも生存する事が許されない、地の果てである。この物語は、第38次隊の7人の「南極観測隊」の話である。7人のうち3人が研究者。後の4人は設営隊員（サポート要員）である。しかし、結局は、ただの7人のオジサンである。そんな、ただの7人のオジサンが、狭いドーム基地で1年間を一緒に暮らすのだ。このドーム基地での楽しみといえば、みんなで美味しい料理を食べる時のみ。それ以外の、楽しみはほとんどない。あるのは、厳しさ・過酷さ・息苦しさ・ストレス・不安・心細さ。極限状況であるが、逃げる場所もなければ、頼る人も隊員以外にいない。そんなシチュエーション、蚊帳の外から見れば滑稽でしかないのだ。日本では考えられない事件が起こるが、最後は、主人公の西村隊員の美味しい料理を食する事で、7人が再び１つになっていく。実にダサくて、カッコよくて、でもバカバカしい、７人のオジサンの予測不可能なコメディドラマである。
公元1860年，英法联军攻入北京，火烧圆明园，园内十二生肖铜像被夺。1898年，镇国公为了夺回十二生肖之一的龙头，遭到了因30年有处死的贪官郑凯之之子钱牧庸（王刚饰）的陷害，其女袭月格格（许晴饰）与丈夫邵云中（解晓东饰）为了夺回龙头相继牺牲。他们的女儿流落民间，服侍袭月格格的太监秦九（陈慧敏饰）矢志找回失散的小格格，在寻找过程中，收留了义子小春（陈小春饰）。公元1918年，经过二十年，秦九流浪到厦门鼓浪屿公共租界，终于找到失散的小格格缨儿（许晴饰），可是，此时的缨儿已经是流浪街头的一个小骗子，没有文化，没有教养，更没有民族与国家的观念。此时，传来消息，龙头又重出江湖了！秦九为了完成历史使命，只好带着小春与缨儿上阵，可是这两人不学无术，秦九为了调教二人，真是吃尽了苦头。跟秦九争夺龙头最大的对手是一个叫高桥血（邵兵饰）的日本青年，其父当年就是被袭月格格杀死的，他一直由钱牧庸抚养长大，高桥血来到中国，立志要夺回龙头，为其父报仇！
