故事发生在1941-1945年间。由于战争爆发，五个好友被迫离开家乡，被迫离开彼此，三个去了东线，两个留在了柏林。这场战争带来的不光有牺牲，还有终生难忘的痛苦回忆。他们中有些人的加入是出于某种目的，而其他人却痛苦地挣扎于良心道德与国家责任之间。
