哪吒前世乃仙童火德星君，其师云中子神机妙算，预知星君将逢厄劫，特赐予神物混天绫、乾坤圈以挡灾厄。果然，商朝四大名将之一“李靖”，为取鹿茸替帝乙治病，前来猎鹿，误将星君射伤，星君堕崖重伤不治。此时靖妻殷十娘怀胎三年零六个月临盆在即，殷十娘终于诞下孩儿，靖满心欢喜之际却赫见十娘诞下的竟是一个肉球，靖断定此乃妖孽降世挥剑将肉球劈开，但跃出来的竟是一个二岁小孩“哪吒”。哪吒童言无忌，经常口不择言令靖窘迫出丑，靖对哪吒成见更深，欲要除之，十娘护子心切，决定将哪吒送予女娲庙抚养。哪吒初尝孤独滋味，开始体谅为人父母之难处，靖被哪吒诚意打动将哪吒接回家同主。好景不长，帝乙弥留之际，梦中见靖子哪吒灭商杀纣，恳求靖杀子以示忠贞，靖最后为报帝乙救命之恩，决定将哪吒放逐凶险非常的飞虎涧听天由命。幸好哪吒命不绝，为四大天王之一“黄飞虎”所救，虎膝下无儿，视哪吒为己出，百般宠爱在一身，养成日后娇纵任性的性格。
